How often do you speak to your moderators.?

1.. do you keep in touch via the forum
2.. do you telephone them now and again

How often do you actually thank them for what they do on your forum.?

Do you think it is inportant to look after your moderators and fully back most decisons they make..?

Just a couple things there that we find inportant..how bout you.

I've very rarely had phone contact w/ mods. I have a time or two to have an immediate conversation about something. There have been a few that I've texted with about issues when I wasn't by a computer and they asked for some insight about something.

There is a Staff Lounge that is out of the public eye that the mods can bring up board issues or for me/us just to say "hey" to each other and have private conversations. Thanks usually come in a PM. But I've considered a tshirt or something too.

We mainly converse on the forum in the Staff section and via PM. Occasionally, we have an e-mail conversation.

I have considered doing monthly IM conversations, which I think would be great for a forum with quite a few staff members. This thread discusses that: http://www.adminaddict.net/forum/member-staff-management/moderator-meetings-376/

Every few months I will thank all of them in a single thread inside the Staff section, but I often thank them via PM.

Just because they are my staff member doesn't mean I should automatically back their decisions, no matter what they may be. However, if their decision is acceptable and appropriate, then of course I would back it. I've never really been disappointed with a moderator's course of action, because most of the time, my moderators consult each other (and even me) before they take the action. None of them act brashly.

We mostly keep in touch via the forum, but occasionally they'll call about an issue if it needs to be resolved right away.
In general, I do back the decisions they make, only occasionally have I felt I needed to reverse a decision. In such cases I try to do so quietly so as not to cause drama.

An easy way to stay in contact, and one I've not used yet, but is to try TinyChat.com or TokBox.com. You can have everyone there either in a chat room, voice chat, or video chatting w/ each other.

I keep in contact with them in the Staff forum. We seem to have a system in place at the moment that works with very few problems, so there isn't a lot of stuff going on in the Staff forum. When it's like this, I try to start threads just to say Hi and ask how things are going. I think it's important to let them know that I am there for them.

I ALWAYS publicly back what my Mods do. There have been only a handfull of times where they have done something that I don't agree with. When that happens, I talk it out with them and let them know how I feel about the issue. They may change their mind and then undo whatever it is they did, or they may feel strongly about what they did and stand by their decision. I think the worse thing to do is to undo what your Mods do all the time. If you have to do that, then maybe they shouldn't be Mods.

Generally, I keep in touch with my team members via a method of "off the forum" communication (i.e. Skype or instant messaging). I'm also considering giving Twitter a try (I already use it for personal pleasure - why not for business, as well?), so we'll see how that goes.

Well, a lot of my staff members are my 'friends' so usually I talk to them on the phone on an almost daily basis, staff subjects are ALWAYS brought up. Other than that, I use skype, MSN, texting, chat, what ever is at hand first. Usually we call each other.
