Currently at AA, its using a wordpress blog, and an article system of sorts. Both are housing articles in them.

I think it would be easier, and possibly drive more traffic and reading of the articles to have the articles posted into wordpress, or make the article section the main page.

We've been trying to figure something out since.... well... forever. The WordPress blog/homepage just isn't doing well. If we were writing things (other than articles) and updating the blog frequently, it would be nice. But such is obviously not the case.

I'd like to turn the homepage into -- not a portal like vBAdvanced -- but a nice page listing some featured articles, featured threads (in-depth recent discussions), recent AA news, etc.
If anybody can come up with some sort of modification or custom job that can do the trick, please be my guest.

I suggest taking a look maybe how they've done it at TheAdminZone.

Use vBACMPS and create a couple modules. One to link to the upcoming interviews, and then one that links to recent or popular articles, maybe recent threads on the side, some advertising spots, etc etc

I don't really like their homepage, to be honest. It's dull and boring, and isn't updated enough.

The one I really do like is that of AdminFusion (adminfusion.com). I want that script. :D

I'm sure that could be achieved pretty easy especially since its using Wordpress.

Use a custom key for the post thumbnail.

For the first side column, you could use the RSS feeder to import the forum threads

For the popular articles, there are many mods for that.

Then the center and other side column are just latest posts from their categories which is like 5 lines of php code ;)

I'm sure the theme they're using could be a real time saver, but it shouldn't take a moderate WP user more than 7-9 hours for it.
