Christmas on your forums

When do you add all of your Christmas like decor to your forum if you do so? Is now too early as I have seen a few sites with their Christmas skin/decor already on. I am thinking its a little early myself and maybe around 5th of December would be best.

Yep, I'll be "decorating" next week.

 

Normally, I'm asked to put one up to join in the festive spirit which normally is up mid december though this year I designed mine in late november and got it up before december this year.

My love for the styling is growing. :unhunh:

 

We're just putting the finishing touches on one of Minerskinz free Christmas skins. We're aiming for a Dec 1 release. Should be a hit with the community as I try to offer seasonal skins whenever possible. They seem to like it and I'm happy to offer it.

 

I shoot for 2 weeks before the holiday.

 

christmas skin is ready, smileys....still need to find some, i made an extra christmas banner with "merry christmas" on it under the forums name, and some snowflakes and presents, my signature with the cartoon pics of me and the other admin-we now are wearing santa hats or reindeer antlers with red noses, and over christmas i am relasing several christmas pictures i made as a present to the members, sending the staff a present and card each, and one of the admin is good at writing stories, he writes a chapter of his story about the forums regular members each week, and we get a special christmas chapter, and a competition to guess what is in the special box in the story, only to be opened on christmas. this is written down in a passworded christmas section that not even the other admin have access to, which the four sub forums will be opened over some time over the next few weeks.

 

I start the first week of Christmas and add my snowflakes falling and music on the forum home. I've never done the whole 'Christmas style' thing, but may try it this year

I've found a few Christmas smileys out there, but anyone found a whole bunch of them somewhere to download?

 

I would never play music on my forums. Generally, if a site plays music, I exit.

If I MUST view a forum or site with music, I want it to have a VERY easy to find way of shutting it off.

 

I'll probably put up a holiday theme that is free to use since I lack skews to create anything.

Well, I started making, well...more like modifying the current skin to be a christmassy skin, I've only done the header so far. But the christmas skin would be ready in two weeks or so.

 

christmas has come early cause the other admin, who is the one who did the christmas skin, wont be online on the 1st, so we have now got three different christmas skins for members to choose from

 

we don't have a special christmas style, but snowflakes falling on the header and this candle thing (dunno the english word at the moment). on the portalsite we also have a countdown module with a tree and on first of december a calendar with freeware gifts every day, i've coded last year.

 

I won't be putting mine up till Dec 4 to ther 6, which is a red theme. Then next weekend a blue theme followed by a green then gold.

Then IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!

 

I have a winter theme I made from a fabulous stock vector illustration with winter fairies floating around with stars, but I don't turn on the falling snow until December 24.

 

I used to have a christmas theme made every Christmas time (and every halloween), but I don't really do this any more. Too much work for too little gain (for the person who made it, anyway), and default styles don't go well with the forum topic.

 

:thumbup: We just released the holiday skin on our site. Using one of Minerskinz free skins with a few changes. Changed the logo a bit to suit our site and I added a gradient to the footer which was just plain white before. We also changed the cat stripes to red from blue. You can see it here:

The only "Christmassy" thing I do is provide an unsupported/barely-modified Christmas theme for the users to choose if they wish: Lineolated Parakeet Forum - Linnie Forum Community

I don't particularly like it, nor do I have the time to change it up to include the minor tweaks that my default style has.

 

Time to scout for some talent in your membership who might be willing to help you with that side of things, at least that's what I did. :p
