I installed the Automatic Welcome Threads mod for vB, and I like it, but how to search engines feel about it as far as "duplicate content"?

Also, I've had one complaint from one new member about it. He said he likes to make his own intros.

How do you feel about this mod?

I have to say I agree that I do not like that mod. This first came to my attention to a parent site....i no liked it. It felt like someone speaking for me.

Just me as I'm sure others probably find it just fine.

I like to have a visual reference of who's joined, whether they want to post or not.

By default, most forum software shows the latest new member, but if several sign up around the same time, you miss the others.

I do get a notice of ALL registrations, but I wanted to toy with this mod for a while.

Well the latest word is that duplicate content is nothing more than a myth. So no worries there.

So aside from that, I still don't like this modification. I think it's rather tacky, less sincere and isn't a good front. Seeing a forum where every member is automatically welcomed makes me wonder if there would be any intros if it weren't for that mod.
It's nicer for users to be able to introduce themselves on their own time/terms.

I just think it's more natural and pure to leave the intros to be done the "right" way. :)
