Not doubting you, kind of expected he wouldn't be, why I asked.

    I see ;)

I suppose (as you said), he has thick skin and soon changed his feelings towards vBulletin. I guess he's made himself something of a joke.

Be aware though outright 'bashing' of other members isn't really encouraged :)

Bashing? I simply asked a question?

You have either misunderstood or I have badly worded it.

I was basically stating that insults directed at any user shouldn't/won't be tolerated. It was in no way related to any previous posts of yours.

Of course there is a lot of anger surrounding Mark.B (or even a little hatred), I don't deny that ;)

Well can only speak for myself. I have NO hate or anger towards Mark. Couldn't care less about vBulletin and the arguments about it that caused him to leave, no interest in it what-so-ever, I moved on a long time ago from vBulletin, pity others can't do same who still years later bang on about it when they don't even use it anymore.

Also, don't confuse BANTER between me and Mark as hate, which a lot make the mistake of doing. Do you think I'd have let Mark join all my forums if that was the case, he'd let me join his vB5 test board also? :)

I'll bare that in mind ;)

I suppose there is no harm in a few jokes.

Not sure, but isn't saying someone has made himself something of a joke a form of personal judgement over that person and possibly even bashing that person? In other words, where is the line drawn between saying someone is a joke and bashing? I am pretty sure I won't be crossing that line at all, but it might help for others, who might.

I used to work in the public sector for a large school district. Like most urban school districts, we had are share of problems. I was one of the people trying to solve those problems. Yet I was often treated as a dumping ground for every gripe people wanted to make. It made dealing with problems 5 times harder than need be. And over time it also made me edgy and less than polite. In fact, sometimes I got as snide as the people who spoke to me. So after awhile, I just stopped hanging out with the constant complainers, but instead just kept to myself, and only dealt with issues that came to me through official channels.

The easiest way to stop complaining is to ask the complainer how they'd like to have their problem solved. Make them think of suggestions for improvement. At that point, the ball is in their court. Usually they'll either shut up or they'll give you some answers towards a possible solution. That is the time you can finally work together towards a positive end.

I agree it was personal opinion and may/may not be seen as 'bashing'. I knew that when I posted it.

It was however in reply to somebody else, and from that point on warned people 'bashing' is not really acceptable, even more so when it doesn't add to the conversation.

Well, I don't think Mark.B is a joke. He has (re)found his passion for vB and is still fighting for it, but from the vB side of the fence. I find that commendable actually. vB could use more conviction.

The fact the software is a joke and he promotes that joke is the issue, if there is even one from that perspective.
