I have installed Burning Board at http://bb.admin-talk.com so you can test out Burning Board 4. I am not impressed with it. I do like the the installer. In fact I'd say it is one of the better install systems I have seen. Other than that nothing jumps out at me. Maybe because administration is so much different from what I am used. IPB, xenForo and even vbulletin where easy to use. Burning Board seems confusing on first look. Maybe in time I could get used to it. In any case check out Burning Board 4 for yourself.
I will definitely add this to my to-do list to check out. What specifically is it about it that you don't like so far @AWS
Yeah, I was like "Whoah!, it looks incredibly like xenForo." at first, but then realized, it IS xenForo. This is again, a cool service you are providing. Thanks for the effort. Scott
Some weird DNS issue. Are you using Firefox by chance? If you are do a hard refresh of the page and it will work.
I forget to setup a DNS record for the sub domain on the slave DNS servers. So every request to the slaves would use the wildcard DNS for the site. It's all fixed now.
it won't even let me request the activation code again, says my email is already in use? Scrap that above, you have to leave it blank. It worked now in sending out again, but again no email got.
No email for activation was being sent. Board email is handled a bit different than other software. Once I figured it out email from board started to work. I have approved you and Scott. Any other registrations should work as normal and get the registration confirmation code.
I've added the blog addon. The more I use it the more I like it. There are some things that it lacks and others that are far better than anything in any other software.
Yeah, think you need to spend time using it, sussing it out proper before making a judgement about it compared to XenForo. Both have their plus and minus things against each other. Sidebar options are way better than XenForo you can use with BB, but XenForo still has the edge on looks, and so on. Both are closely matched really, I like the fact BB4 has the Gallery and Blog extras.
Interesting. I've only heard about BurningBoard a few times, and last time I saw it, it was really lacking. This installation looks really cool, I'll need to look into it some more!
Looked at XF, IPB and Burning Board and made the decision to migrate to BB. They are writing a transfer importer to bring us from Kunena 3. I liked it because it has the features we needed without being overly complicated for me and my users.
I have had a play with a 3 day demo a couple of weeks ago and I quite liked the simplicity of the admin area and the general feel is quite good and there is a fairly good range of addons including some good styles, I think it is getting to be a very worthy alternative to our current top 3 paid solutions and if I ever come up with a decent new forum idea BB will be the one I choose.
