Like I said, forums that are too general don't do very well. You might as well have just one forum with an input field at the top that says, "What's on your mind?" and when someone posts, their friends are notified about it. Oh wait.....oops. That idea is taken. Doh!

Contests are always a good idea. They stimulate engagement on blogs so why not on forums. I think the prizes are interesting. Choosing to offer a mix of prizes was a good idea too. Quite a few persons would like the cash, while others would like the free hosting and so on. All the best with your forum. I'll pass by and have a look in a while.
