What is the most popular section of your forum, and why do you think that is?

Mine would be the "Chit Chat" forum simply because, well, we're a chat site. :D

The off-topic section is always the most popular, unless you run a porn site.

The off topic section is basically like most forums, its this because i think its got a sub board of forum games so like say i do count to 300 posts are getting put in there every 30 minutes so that gets about 20 posts aday.. when all my others get about 17, 20

The general discussion is my biggest forum with 55k posts, then the art marketplace has 20k posts. Lastly, our virtual pets forum has 19k posts.

How big is your food section? How many posts does it have?

Luckily, my main niche boards are more popular than my off-topic area. What I commonly do is avoid the off-topic area as much as I can. If you avoid it and post in the niche topic areas, members will tend to follow your lead. If you are active in the off-topic area, well expect others to be active in that area as well.

The roleplay section. It has the most post. I think it's because my roleplay isn't like any other roleplay. It makes you feel like you are in the actual game, instead of posting paragraphs making things up.

The second one with most post is the forum games. Which I think is very common in many forums.

My most popular Forum Section would be the "Appraisal Forum". Mainly because we are a domain community and both novice and veterans alike tend to seek some form of 2nd opinion on domains they invested in. Naturally most never like to hear that what they invested in is worthless, so that can sometimes create a little bit of tension when they are told there's little to no value. Tension of course leads to debate and debate leads to attitudes and attitudes leads to, well, you know the rest of the cycle. The end result is normally more members engaging each other, some positive and educational while others are slightly negative. (negative is dealt with on a per report basis depending on severity).

The "general poker" section on my forum is the most popular, but I'm expecting my marketplace forums to be more popular once my forum gets bigger.

Our Break Room (General / Off-topic) is actually only #6 in the most frequented forums on our site with domain appraisals still at #1. This is a good thing actually, it means that more members are engaging in productive business discussions and marketplace activities. (x2 Biz Discussion forums / x3 Marketplace forums / then the break room / then comes all the other forums). The top 6 forums are in the mid 200k to high 400k post range followed by 4 forums in the low 200k range, followed by 10 forums in the low to high 100k post range, and then comes all the other forums under the 100k range.

A couple of popular threads we have are, one called "Name that scammer" Where after careful checking we expose the scammers, I think many of the views are from the scammers themselves checking to see if they are now receiving some free publicity.

The second one is "Scammers say the funniest things" We see some really hilarious sayings and sentences from some of the scammers as they try to steal money.

Another new and popular thread is called " 419 means Jail time" This is where we post details of the scammers who have been sentenced to prison. Due to the efforts of many good people, the scammers are now being jailed in ever larger numbers and I predict this thread will become very popular.

It's the off-topic, no holds barred, uncensored section. People love their free speech. I find that people tend to gravitate towards forums that are uncensored/unfiltered where posting on any topic is allowed no matter how crude or offensive it is. I mean, that was the original spirit of the Internet. It was a place for trolls to say things anonymously that they would never say in real life. It is the dark appeal of these here interwebz!
