Well just when most are thinking vBulletin is starting to get better with each release they revert back to old ways.

They just released vBulletin 4.1.10 which many think is what vBulletin 4 should have been when it was first released. Everything is looking rosey and then what happens? They pull the download because they found a major bug. Well at least we haven't seen a series of patches which used to follow each new release.

*Sigh* I think the fact that I have an email filter set up to trash any of their updates/announcements sufficiently illustrates how over vBulletin I am. I don't think they're ever going to get back to where they were, it's just a hopeless, endless tunnel at this point for them.

Something to do with branding free releases, but, it is strange that a bug like that would take down the whole release. Maybe more to it than was first reported.

Maybe EVERY download was a branding free option :)

I still think vB 3.8.7 is their best release
I really don't like the way for 4 looks even there is a skin I like a lot, it takes too long to go through upgrades and then you have to figure out if a code got broke somewhere

Funny enough, that's exactly what I've done now in Hotmail. Added them to my spam filter list. They seem to email you about things way too often these days in their promotional drive. Never thought I'd see the day vBulletin was listed as spam, but they are now with me.

That's because they have an xTreme marketer running things now.

From what I remember when I used vB, the Branding Free Option is actually applied on the fly when the customer downloads the product. They don't actually select "branding free version" (unlike IPB which does it based on your License Key if you've purchased the copyright removal). So... kinda makes sense that they would need to pull the entire thing in order to fix it. It could have been an issue with the download building script not correctly identifying where the branding is in the code so it can remove it.

Only just seen this so its a very late reply, but this was NOT a bug in vbulletin, it was a glitch in an SVM merge, which then affected the build process.
