    Which one is better?

Before I though, fluid is better, so I used a fluid style on my forum.
But now I am more and more into fixed styles. They look so much cleaner to me.

    What do you think?

It's not a question of which is better, but of preference.
    I prefer fluid.

I've found that there are a lot of people that like each, so the easiest way to please them all is to offer both a fixed and fluid version of your skin. :)

Technically, how do you do that?
    Create a child style?

    Ok, I got it!
I created a child style and then fixed the width.

I choose fixed for the default, but allow users to select other fluid styles if they want too :)

Yep, though sometimes I have found just reimporting the skin works best. Personally I like fluid skins but I do want the other options to be out there just in case. ;)

I prefer Fixed because on large resolutions fluid just looks stretched out and empty.

Well that's why you gotta find the perfect size :p I like to work with 960px. I know lots of sites (like Facebook), use fixed.

I'd rather have empty space on the sides rather than being part of the actual design.

However, I am going to soon be offering a fluid version of my theme just for members who want it (forums that offer both are good).

I personally prefer fixed layouts, easier to work with, less images required, easier to read text lines, etc.

Exactly. I hava a huge monitor, and my forum looks so stretched!
Now I use fixed as default style and fluid as an option for those users, who like fluid.

One isn't better than the other. It's what's your own preference but more importantly what compliments the design during development that warrants either a fixed or fluid solution. Some styles I create looked better fixed, whilst others would look better fluid. There's many other factors to consider but it's a personal preference not substantial fact or claims that one is better than the other because it's not.

It's just like the war against postbit and postbit_legacy. neither is better it's what works for you and based on personal preference. I prefer legacy though I don't think it's any better than postbit because I had to use postbit for a style which warranted a postbit layout.
