I wonder what vBulletin's old staff think of vBulletin 4...

Actually I think it's gone furhter downhill since Ray's departure. At least before then it had some sort of direction - albeit not a direction everyone liked.

Now though it appears to be drifting rudderless. I'm appalled that I can't upgrade to vB4 despite buying a vB4 license, and were it not for the fact that it still benefits me by replacing my previous leased license renewals (I bought it in the original presale) I'd unfortunately have to ask for a refund.

I give myself another year or so on 3.8 and then it will be time to look at Invision. I'm really impressed with their product at the moment from seeing it on their site and others.

I must have been out on the day the log cabin thing was funny because I just plain don't get it.

Anyhoo - Although there is a chance things could turn around I personally feel that if I didn't take control over the future of my forum, I couldn't justly blame vBS for not taking control of their future.

Its easier to give criticism than to proactively respond to and actually manage it. For me, waiting around a year or even 6 months "just in case it got better" was employing the same management principle vBS currently has: Manage by blind luck.

Even though my conversion will take a bit longer and I'll be on 3.8 for awhile longer, I feel 10 times better knowing where my future is and knowing that my forum isn't dependent on someone at vBS waking up and pulling their finger out.

The past few weeks of monitoring the IPB forum is like monitoring a different world. It seems like there are a good ~2-3 blogs a week from the dev team on application developments and 3.1 developments. Compare that to the ~3 preview blogs a year over at vB and you go into system shock with the momentum. I am still a newbie so maybe its just timing - however I almost feel that I grew so used to no updates and slow releases that its like being kept in a cave and finally being let out into the light.

So, since Floris and Kier are members here (and technically Ray Morgan, although no one's seen him online since forever), what do they think of vBulletin 4?

Somehow I doubt that they will say much, but Floris isn't very happy, from what I gather.

I think that Kier has already made his opinion clear, both here, on twitter, etc.

I'm right now living for a short period of time in Jacó, Costa Rica. If I find Ray Morgan, I'll send him your regards. :)
