I just purchased the download. I can make my own discs so don't need their packaging. I downloaded both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions yesterday, made my discs and upgraded 3 computers so far. Haven't upgraded mine because I need to take it off the internet for about 3 hours and simply don't have the time to do that. However it is running the Windows 7 RC still so not a big deal to wait.
If I google 'windows 7' there are a lot of results. Anyone know of a really simple comparison of the packages? Premium, personal, complete, unleaded, super unleaded. The newspaper had an ad yesterday and it looked a bit confusing.
Yeah I purchased my upgrade 2 months ago. Have been using the x64 Ultimate RC since that time. No issues whatsoever. I've always been an XP Pro dude. Never tried Vista, till we had to replace my wife's laptop (Vista Ultimate). I'm not all whoopee about the OS, but am just curious about what will be packaged. It was just a comical notice in light of the vb4 release. How about this?
I would say you shouldn't have to worry about it, meaning it should work. I didn't find any issue here
You just reminded me of actually 1 problem I've encountered. I have 1 PC still on XP Pro, 1 PC w/ W7, and 1 with Vista. I have a networked Brother printer. The printer is connected to a print server (D-link) in order to be assigned it's IP and configuration. The XP prints fine to the printer, but the the W7 and Vista do not. The printer was added the same way, was found the same was as on the XP machine. The icon always shows up as Offline. Thus I have not been able to print. I found the Vista drivers and no change in behavior. Upon setup of the Vista laptop I did the print test page....it came a day later... :shrug: I haven't delved much more than that. The printer (laser) is 5 years old though. lol
Thanks! I did not see any mention of office or word 2000 on that link but do have a question. When they refer to 32 mode, is that the "XP compatibility" that needs to be used of the higher end professional/Ultimate packages?
Compatibility is just having to do w/ your current PC's software and hardware. For the most part, shouldn't have to worry about 32bit. There might be some issues with 64bit, only if you choose that version of W7 but you're hardware is less apt or not able to utilize it (e.g., not all cpus can run 64bit). Go ahead and run the compatibility test....
Simple... Home Premium is the package you want if you're a personal computer user. If you have a dual-core CPU and more than 2 Gigabytes of RAM, you most likely want the 64-bit version. Starter - Sold in Third-world nations, no multitasking. Home Basic - Limited computers with low power processors and low memory. Limited Multitasking. Home Premium - What most people should use. Professional - Some additional features for office work but missing media features of Home Premium Enterprise - Only sold to Corporations. Mix of Home Premium and Professional features. Ultimate - For the geek that has to have it all.
Took the laptop from Vista Ultimate to 7 - Enterprise doing a clean install. All told including updates and reloading software took 3 hours. Most of that was wait time too. Very seamless update. Kudos to MS for the install experience.
TBH, I wished they never even included a 32 bit version. With the 64 bit support growing each day it's not needed in my opinion. It would also force other software developers to release 64 bit software instead of using the same old 32 bit crap. I've been running W7 RC 64 bit on my laptop with 2gb of RAM since it was released, I missed out on the pre-order, but I'll get it for christmas for myself. My main computer just needs 64 bit no matter and not just for the 8gb of RAM it's got. It's still running the RC as well. I did buy Vista Ultimate 64 bit when I built my new computer against all the negative thigns people say about it, I never had ONE SINGLE problem with it, drivers, software, nothing, it all worked fine or worked fine within 5 minutes of googling the problem. People need to stop being lazy and stop making up excuses, I know I'm a hypocrite when it comes to that some times lol.
Pretty easy to do, I've been running WinXP Pro SP3 nlited tweaked + Win 7 ultimate 64bit RTM from technet dual boot for several months without problem
I bit the bullet and got Windows 7, installed it yesterday...the only issue I have that is bugging the cr@p outta me LOL is the resolution is not displaying correctly....I have it at the native resolution but it's stretched out sideways and all googling is pointing to an NVIDIA driver issue, but I can't find a fix as of yet :o I installed the 32 bit, what's the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit? Any chance if I use the 64 bit instead it might fix my problem?
If its pointing to a Driver Issue then update that driver.. Only use 64Bit if u have 4GB or more RAM..
I have updated the nvidia to the 'latest' driver and still no dice, I also contacted the manufacturer of my monitor who don't have any drivers for Win7 yet, so I guess I will just wait it out and hope there's a new update to one of them soon that sorts it lol I have 4Gb RAM
@Tech, you mean use 64bit anyways XD. I really wished they would of killed 32bit or attempted to by not releasing 7 in 32bit versions. It's so outdated, at least in my opinion. @LissaE, go 64bit, it's awesome and no issues as of yet for me at least. Been running it since the first public beta.
