We dont have a seperate privacy policy, ours is mixed in as part of our forum rules, so its more like a forum rules and privacy policy :) The popup is good but I think it would better if the window or the text area was larger.

Yep, I do for every site/forum I operate.

No, and I honestly don't have much I would write in it, with the lack of advertising and all that.

I just link to google's privacy policy most of the time.

And just so you know that little window that pops up you have to scroll to read every thing, as two vertical scroll bars.

  6. Hi All,

A privacy policy is one of the things that I am still working on for my forum. From a legal standpoint I think it is a MUST HAVE. With the concern around personally identifiable information (PII) and all of the intricies of PII it is best to make sure that your users know how you intend to use their information and how you look to safeguard it. Even if you don't plan to have advertising on your site, even if you collect people's names, birthdates, images, city/state where they live, etc. you are collecting PII! California has a law called the California Online PRivacy Protection Act of 2003 (OPPA) that says that commercial sites must have a privacy policy that meets certain requirements. That means if you make any money off your website and your site is open to people from CA you need to have a privacy policy!

Here are some resources that I used when constructing my company's privacy policy:
*On the Leakage of Personally Identifiable Information Via Online Social Networks by B. Krishnamurth and C. Willis:

Oh that reminds me that I need to add the privacy policy to some of the new forums. But yes, I do have them on my forums.

Yes, I do have a privacy policy. (Placed in the 'Information Center' along with other important docs like Forum Rules, Posting Guidelines and Terms of Service.)

This is something I REALLY need to do.

Are there any good generic Privacy Policies out there that I could modify?
