vBulletin 4.0.2 is out - does it still suck?

So, away from the moderation, the haters and the fanatics at vB.com - I am asking you guys and girls this question.

Of all the forums I run and/or own only 2 are still running on vBulletin - and vBulletin 3.8 at that. And neither of them will be upgrading to vB4 anytime soon.

    My biggest concerns are:
This version by version "code rewrite" is just complete and utter crap in my opinion. All that does is it makes me constantly update code and forum styles after each upgrade. Especially now that I read somewhere on vB.com that even the disastrous "stylevars" system is subject to change even in the 4.0.X releases. Wasn't the idea that we would be having one great style system that helps us style our forums MORE efficiently? Now, if I were to go down the vB4 route, I would be constantly adjusting new and "improved" stylevars.

But apart from that... What is vB4.0.2 like, bug-wise? Is it usable at last?

I don't know what to tell you. I have talked to several who uses the new vB4.0 series, and they are hating it. I have yet to hear one decent word. So I took it upon myself to learn from their mistakes. I am keeping my current forums with vB3.8.4 and won't leave it. Does plenty of what I need and it's much simpler imo to work with.

I don't think I'll even think of updating this site to 4.x until 4.1 comes out, then I still doubt it :p

I don't even know if I'll be updating to 3.8.5 to be honest... The code changes will be coming from the same people who made vB4.

3.8.5? Is vB going back to the 3.8 series?

No but they have to release 3.8.5 to address some bugs in 3.8.4. Just a maintenance release.

Ah gotcha. After the pita this new forum project of mine is turning out to be, I may not upgrade to 3.8.5. This has been a nightmare so far.

I updated this forum to 3.8.5
    Is 4.0.3 out yet?
I have a client with a big board just begging to get on 4.0 & I've told him to wait a few versions

I'm still running 3.8.4 and don't plan on going to either 3.8.5 or 4.0.x.

I got tired of re-skinning my test board with each and every 4.0 release. I've taken the wait and see approach, hoping they can get it together and come out with a release that I've come to expect from vB.

At the moment, I don't trust anything coming from IB, so I'm not upgrading to 3.8.5 either. I'm happy to stay on 3.8.4 and apply the security patches.
