Inspired by StateDOG's recent thread (What do feature do you wish MyBB had (that vB/IPB does)?)... What are some of the first things that come to mind when I ask, what are some features you have seen in other forum systems that you would like to see in vBulletin? There are several simple but useful features I have seen in other forum systems that vBulletin just doesn't have, for whatever reason. Probably at the top of my wishlist would be custom moderation tools, which MyBB has. What about you?
Don't know which software it was, but it had a block with all activities around the board. Something like:
That would cause a lot of overhead and resource usage on large forums though, and even on small ones it would strain shared hosting. Rather than features it needs, I think it needs to get rid of User Albums Social Groups The vB4 design User albums is a primitive script at best without any of the core functions any basic gallery/album needs Social Groups = flop and we all know it. 90% of webmasters would rather have that discussions/topics/posts in their forums rather then buried deep in the site. vB4 design = go look at it. Self explanatory.
I agree with you in regards to the social groups - they're simply pointless and generally ignored. Now... if this feature could somehow be integrated with the actual 'discussion' aspect of a forum (not sure how), I can see it working.
Better ad management - including managing the selling of ad space, banner rotation, ability to sell ads that target certain forum sections, management of pay per click ads, integrated revenue sharing,,,,, Better looking lightbox effect
Like kevin better lightbox and I would also want an report center for all kinds of reports like posts, pms and whatever else that can be reported.
Social groups interface and blogs interface updated to look more fun. The social groups would be better if they were more dominant on the forums and more like Bebo's groups. The blogs would be much better if they were more wordpress like.
You can change what lightbox you use relatively easily. There are a ton of free ones out there if you find one and aren't sure how to make vbulletin use it, just let me know
For the days when lots of spammers get past the perimeter, I'd like some mass delete options in the New Registrations list.
More methods of verifying members are human before joining other than the standard captcha, recaptcha and question and answer, as well as being able to use two methods at once would be good. Different ways of ranking up would be good as well, like based on time registered, reputation, posts per day, etc rather than just overall post count. Possibly more customisation options, like proper custom layouts for profiles and such like, instead of just being able to change the colours and text styles of a few built in elements.
Theres like 3-4 mods on vborg that I think should come default in vb. Like advanced forum permissions...for example...
Sorry for the bumped topic, but a feature I forgot to suggest: 1. Smiley categorisation by page As in, the smiley list is paginated by category to avoid having to load all three million smilies at once when the list is viewed from the editor or FAQ.
