ever been raided by another forum?

I had an unbelievable experience a couple of weeks ago; my forum was raided by a forum of law students. Yep, one of their mods organized the attack, and a bunch of them came over and posted sexual content pretending they were pedophiles. Some of them were dumb enough to use their .edu email addresses and take screenshots of the worst posts.

I tracked down the forum's owner (who was not online at the time and not involved, and seemed quite horrified at the actions of his members) who quickly put a stop to the attack, deleted the attack thread, and publicly said anyone attacking us further would be banned.

Several of the trolls then apologized by email and begged me not to take action against them or bring bad publicity to their forum hehe Epic win!

 

Good work, personally I would have contacted their universities.

 

That would have been super ownage. Well, I've never been attacked before, but I have had forum wars back when I was an admin of another forum.

 

I've never had this happen and I hope it doesn't.

If the wouldn't have cooperated in the end, I would have contacted their universities and/or their ISPs. Or at least threatened to do that.

Did they randomly attack you, or is it some sort of rivalry? Was there a reason for them to do it?

I have never been attacked, but I have been accused of my forum attacking another. At the time it was a bit of rivalry and (un)friendly competition brewing between the two forums. The other forum got hacked (admin account) and was made so every new member had full admin permissions. We were blamed for this, but it actually had nothing to do with anything at all; they just got hacked by a random hacker having his fun.

 

I have been raided before. But it only lasted about 10 mins before they were all IP banned.

End of that.

Okay, funny things out of the way, I know it isn't fun to get raided. I've seen things that I can no longer unsee.
I suppose this doesn't count as a raid, but one guy made something like 20 accounts on my forum by hand and then used some kind of bot control program. The goatse was everywhere. >.< He was from another forum in the same niche that was pissed at me for various drama whoring (unintentional... how was I to know that my banner was insulting the recently deceased GM?).

I myself am guilty of participating in raids... never on forums, though. Chatrooms are fair game for me. Omegle, a nice chat, etc...

I've known people to go raid other sites. However, they were not posting *those* images, but instead just basically being annoying. One of the forums I saw this happen on, I PMed the admin and gave him a link to One Touch Spam Ban (or whatever it's called). Must easier to get rid of these guys with something like that.

 

Yep, you'd think law students would be smarter about raiding a forum, making incriminating posts and then saving the evidence. Or, you know, not doing something stupid like participating in it in the first place. The mind, it boggles.

Now if I'd been smart I would have wrangled free legal services out of the perps. (Because you want the biggest b******* for your lawyer, right?)

 

I was attack by 4chan on both my chat and Forum. 6 hours of hell.

 

My forums never get raided : /

 

I wouldn't like to get raided by another forum. It would be unpleasant that's for sure. I have no idea how I would handle it.

 

Grep the logs for the referring address and ban the resulting ips : )

Wow, this has never happened to any one of my forums. Very odd indeed!

Not only will I strike back, but I'll contact Internet Service Providers and all. Now THAT won't be pretty.

Single douchiest move an admin can do against a competitor: get 4chan to raid him.

 

It helped that I had other admins who were helping me delete like crazy, still I had to temporarily block all registrations while I looked for the source.

 

Everyone on my forum has their first post approved. And that post needs to be cohesive regarding the topic of the forum.


Newcomers can make 1000 posts and none of them will show up. Though time consuming it helps tremendously on a wide range of issues.

 

Damn right1 I got raided for 6 hours!!! More than 600 bans!!!

 

Your button-pushing finger must have been pretty sore after all that clicking!
