I don't use the invisible mode either, but I do have a second account that is disguised as a standard registered user that has full admin rights. This allows me to work in adminCP and other areas without being contacted if I need to concentrate on something with out PM notices popping up. I do allow members to set invisible mode if desired. Being that 1 of 500, yes we hit 500 members today, in less than one moth of going live too, anywho, being 1 in the 500 has set themselves to invisible I just don't think most people even give it a thought.
I think it's weird having members being invisible too, however, I'm one to talk. I'm confused, why is it understandable? :spin:
We all agree that it isn't professional or acceptable for a forum staff member to go on invisible mode. But Wayne's case is special, so it's an exception - and is therefore understandable.
I would probably allow premium members to have the option. It is kind of a win-win situation. Either they're not premium and they can't do it or they are and they can do it. So if you have many people that are invisible, that's fine because you have that many people that are paying a monthly subscription to your site (overriding the fact that you may seem less active).
I don't use invisible, so I'm assuming that one can still post while invisible. In which case to be truly invisible one has to not post. If people know there is such a thing as invisible, but they see a username coming up on New Posts, they know the user is probably on. Dedicated forum members are quite sly about things like this.
Correct - one can still post while "invisible". You make a fantastic point. If a member truly wanted to remain out of view from the public eye, he/she would simply browse the forum and not participate in the ongoing discussions taking place at the time.
In fact, posting while invisible will inform every forum member who likes watching "who's on" that there is such a thing as invisible. Cover blown. "They might be on! l'll send a pm."
When someone is invisible that I want to contact, I always get happy when I see they've posted within the last fifteen minutes. That means they are usually online and active.
I've never really bothered going invisible...I mean, members would probably figure out I'm on anyway...that and if they need something badly enough, they'd PM me whether I was on or not...
I never saw the point in using invisible mode, unless your absolutely hated by members and if you were seen they would yell at you
No, I never use invisible mode as a administrator. It makes member's think you're unapproachable. I really don't want my staff to use it either.
