I have seen these kind of compliments one time to many, will it ever stop?

I'm not sure whether I'm legally allowed to quote the post but I think I can safely let you know that the title of the thread contain the words "utter crap". The rest is deducible me think.

Quote the post please. Because they certainly aren't gonna sue you for it, at least they probably wouldn't be insane enough too.

The Cliff Notes version of the linked thread appears to be another case where a forum owner blindly converted (I'm not going to say "upgraded" since going to vB5 from an older vB version is really treated as a conversion) to vB5 without doing any due diligence first.

Anybody who knows me would know that I despise what vB has turned into but even a 30 second browsing of their support forums would give an indication of the state of vB5; for anybody to blindly convert their production site to it really has nobody to blame but themselves when it goes horribly wrong.

Ouch, he's pissed and yeah if he didn't take the time to check it out before going ahead with the change, user error for sure.

With all the negative comments on the lack of professional handling of customers complaints I think it would be fitting to have a quote of Wayne's handling of this. I think it's important to show that in some cases with some people the professionalism is still there.

@Brandon Thanks bud. I wonder if the customer made a backup before the change? If he did he doesn't say but at the very least that would be the simple fix. Re-install the backup. There are some things where the onus is on the users. Research the product. Use a test site. MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.

If he doesn't have a backup, couldn't he convert to phpBB/MyBB/SMF/IPB/XenForo and then back to vBulletin 4 from there?

Or just stay at the new software, anything's got more of a future than vBulletin has.

I don't think anyone has a vB 5 importer yet. Do they?

The problem with converting if you can sometimes lose your thread, forum, member ID's.
I agree, he should have taken a backup at the very least. It's a major upgrade, just like going from 3 to 4 was a major upgrade and broke most the plugins.

And if he had no backup for whatever reason, he's hosed regardless, vBulletin 5 changes the topic ids and things as well...

Better to go to a decent new script and maintain the content than be stuck on a bad script which did the exact same to your search rankings.

Wayne treated him the right way, with this kind of customer you shouldn't lose control. Kudos for him.

I'm just wondering why these threads keep getting moved to the private customer feedback forum.

This was originally posted in the public vBulletin 5 Connect Feedback forum.

Because its private this way they can hide stuff plain and simple. If every negative topic was public they would not sell many licenses.
