I think it differs depending on your Niche. Is your site used by Teens and Students who use your site when their studying or at College? Then you will get less visits during the Summer when they're on Holiday.
Or do they use your site in their spare time when their at home? Then you'll get more hits during the holidays as they have more free time to browse the net.

I have a swimming forum that gets really active during summers. So my case is opposite of yours.

The summer months are definitely the slowest time for Internet posting. People are out and about, enjoying the warm weather. I definitely notice a decrease in registrations and posts. It is to be expected. The activity picks back up in October and November only to dissipate again in March and April.

Do you really? Can you please provide us with a link to your swimming forum? I have been an avid swimmer since I was five years old and I would love to check out your forum. I would have a lot of knowledge to contribute. I can see why that type of forum would stay active in the forum. Thanks!

I don't have a forum but I'm active in a few ones and I have notices over and over that the activity on those forums drops during summer, winter and any other holiday. People are just hanging outsite and not caring much about the Internet.

I have seen this in many niches but I'm sure it does not affect all of them, just the ones I've been involved with.

Winter it drops because a lot of users are working or in school and don't have much time to post. Activity is high in the summer because a lot of users are around and have time to be active.
