I just ordered a Raspberry Pi model B from Amazon. I can't wait for it to arrive. Does it really play Netflix? That would be awesome but I can't find any good reference on the Internet about it.
What does that board do? That looks like a chip from Microchip but I may be wrong. What are you doing with that?
If you're just going to use it for streaming video you might as well just get a Roku. With all the custom channels Rokus are far better adapted to that purpose. I'm not a Roku fanboy at all, in fact I like the WDTV Live hub way better. I'm just saying for other purposes the Rasberry Pi seems cool but for video streaming there are far cooler choices out there and after all that work trying to get a Rasberry Pi to be a media player the Roku is still far better.
I have a roku, and an apple TV that I can run netflix on. I have a few plans for my Pi, one is to set it up to run my bitcoin miners. The card I added friday (haven't programmed yet, will update when I do) that will display my hash rate along with the current Bitcoin to USD price. After I get tired of that I'll make a mini arcade, but I'll need to buy or build a few pieces to it. *edit* something like this as far as the arcade.
Feel free to share some pics, I'll likely get an Arduino card at some point to run along with the Pi.
It's just a stock model right now. As I'm more learning the C coding side of it. I do have a LCD screen I'm printing data on. I'm looking to develop a module that will make a nice touchscreen monitor to display OBDII (automotive, RPM, MPH, etc) data.
Do you have one of these? http://www.adafruit.com/products/1110 That's the LCD screen I have, I'll finally have time tonight to get it working and see if I soldered it correctly.
I have some cheap 9.99 one, works ok. I've got a breadboard I've stuck mine on to avoid soldering while I'm "testing".
What are you thoughts Apple TV vs. Roku? I love Roku because it's so open. TBH, my Apple TV sits in the living room and is rarely used. My Roku gets used mostly for watching DVD rips on my thumb drive.
