Such an amazing amount of truly useful information! I've always been interested in trying out MyBB free forum software, (other than on a free hosted forum site), just to try out all the advanced functions. But the installation always seemed too tricky to tackle. Before now, I've done my own SMF software installation and that always went well. But, that was more of a point and click, fill in the blank type of install, so no problems there. I checked out the link provided and was very impressed with the MyBB Auto Installer offered on the MyBB web host. This could be a deciding factor for a MyBB newbie starting out. One click installation of MyBB would lighten the load of setting up and running a forum. Thanks for sharing.
A Small Orange isn't new. They've been around since 2004. I used them once and had a quality experience with them. The support is quick and the forums were active. You could post a question to the forums and the members were quite helpful, but contacting support directly was a cinch. No big downtime either.
im using ushost247.com so far i haven't had any problems with them i used to use forumotion but moved off them for better hosting with mybb
Not sure about that. But I know I signed up with them back in '06 for a while. Not sure if they where a reseller at first or what. But you can peruse their forums and see all their history.
The hosting "companies" that you supplied aren't very professional through reviews I just looked up. Even though they may or may not be good, might I suggest looking into http://www.hosting24.com/ or even http://www.hostgator.com/ After a while, you may want to switch over to Virtual Private Servers, which will cost a bit more but will hold a lot more traffic, data, and everything overall.
I might move from hostgator to bluehost or dreamhost or even ixwebshoting, still deciding which one. Hostgator doest allow me to use Ioncube loaders and also php limit is 64mb. I use IPB and the limit is lower to what IPB advice, also have ip.Nexus wich requires some sort of loader like ioncube and the shared hosting is not allowed. Anymore hosting recomendations?
Very nice article. Every time I look for a host for a new site I look for something with guaranteed uptime (99.9%) and high bandwidth. Usually I don't mind having tons of disk space. 20 GB is more than what I need.
Excellent article, and well explained. I'm not sure what host would be suited for a large forum, but I'm using byethost to start off. They're quite cheap, and that's what you need to think if you're new ;] Once you start to get some revenue you can use a different host for a bigger community. I also look at the disk space since I tend to put a lot of files in it.
Finally a review that mentions to steer-clear of any "unlimited" webhost. I fully agree with you. No such thing as unlimited. Servers have limits, you cannot have unlimited. It's ironic that, even though you mention this in the first post, users have filled this thread with links to HostGator, which ironically is one of the worst offenders in the overselling unlimited webhosting bandwagon.
