    I'm looking at
    1. Knownhost
    2. TMZVPS
    3. HawkHost
    4. Futurehosting

My budget is about $40-50 a month so any hosts you can recommend that has been around a couple of years, is US and has good support/reputation is most welcome.

    Liquidweb.com is the absolute best.

I wouldn't touch Knownhost again with a 6 foot pole. I'd recommend Liquidweb. Knownhost should be called Knownsuck really because their support really sucks. I remember when I had an issue with my server with them, it took them 6-10 hours just to reply to my email. Liquidweb has 24/7 support, so it is a better company.

Oh yeah Hostatom is good to I hear!

Also, Liquidweb has a good rep but they are far out of my price range. WHT seems to love knownhost though.

Liquidweb VPS starts at $50. I know mine is $61 and well worth it.

Oh when I say out of my price range...i mean I am paying $40 a month for 2 GB of ram now....Liquidweb offers 1.7 GB ram(which is an odd number to me) for $90 :D

As previously mentioned... FutureHosting has been fantastic, top notch hardware.

For instance, my VPS right now is a Quad, Quad-Core E5620. Totally quick and efficient.

Datacenters around the country, so you have plenty of choice. This is very important especially for geographical forums.

You are quite welcome. Also, make sure you get their "managed" option. It is only like $3 a month more, but very well worth it. You can add it at any time.

The guys are quite knowledgeable about the hosting side of it and optimizations. They are not all that super knowledgeable about forums... but are willing to work with you and others to get issues resolved if necessary.

I pay $53 or something like that for the VM5 package, and also have an almost equivalent package at VPSLatch.net, where I am paying around $32 a month, however the hardware, well not that really, the speeds overall are far faster.

My VPS @ FH is in Washington DC, and the VPS @ VPSLatch is in Florida. 99% of my users are in the North East.

    VPSLatch has me on a Dual, Quad Core Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz

The Quad Quad at FH far nicer.

I can't believe Linode wasn't brought up in this thread..
I've been with them now since 2009, in that time I have suffered one single planned outage from my vps, that was for planned security updates.
I pay $20 per month, they don't sign you into contracts.

I am starting to see what you mean with KH. I signed up with them and I am having trouble getting my site migrated over. It's pissing me off.

    Looking elsewhere.

Not on your list, but I use http://hostigation.com (I have an aff link, not sure if they're allowed here). Very cheap, and good support (albeit abrupt). Unmanaged VPS servers though - they also offer cPanel licenses with their VPS's cheap.

I recently moved into ChicagoVPS. They have a coupon code for $40/year (stealofadeal). Not sure if it still works.

After some issues at TMZVPS last weekend resulting in 24+ hours of down time. I opened a VPS with KnownHost and have been happy so far. I opened one support ticket with KH, my query was answered and software enabled (ImageMagick's PHP extension) before I blinked.

To be fair, Dan the owner of TMZVPS has went above and beyond to make it right with me and I have a brand spankin' new VPS with them that I'm using for secondary sites until I feel they're stable again.

I used them many times over the years and their support is spot on. They will have someone willing to assist you 24 hours a day. I even had a nice conversation with the owner once. Very decent people over there if still looking
