I've been working a lot of hours lately through a temp agency doing some general labour work, and I've been coming home burnt out. It has made me too lazy to post on my forum when I get home, because all I want to do is lie down, and do nothing after a long day of work. I'm planning on quitting the job in about 1-2 months so I can dedicate full-time hours to my forum, and by that time I believe I can turn my forum into my source of income.

Have you ever gotten to lazy to post on your forum? How do you keep yourself motivated?

Yes I do. I often get kind of burnt out and want to do something else.

I get tired of doing the same ol' thing too so I have a bit of a routine down that helps.

I avoid anything that wastes my time and I start by doing the things that are important first.

    - Do you spend 45 minutes looking over adsense stats per day? Knock it off!
    - Do you spend a half hour per day reading Facebook and Twitter junk? Knock it off!

You get the idea, get rid of the time wasters and what's left is surprisingly productive.

I admit I do spend a lot of time looking over facebook and twitter, maybe I'll try doing the important things first and see if that helps.

That's all forums are: a series of projects. In the beginning it's a ton of projects. Then, once those are finished it's always a case of "Well, if I tweak this or change that it will be better for the forums." Then it's a case of "Now that I've changed X, Y doesn't look right / function correctly." Then it becomes "I should have left well enough alone."

Everyone gets burned out but members know when the site owner is burned out. It's a bad impression to give. If you don't care about your forums then why should anyone else? That's what motivates me to do something every day. Make an appearance. BS in the shoutbox. Post something, no matter how lame it is. Respond to a few posts. Act like I give a damn, even if I don't that day.

If I get lazy, its because I'm tired. I try to get new topics and new posts out everyday. I get tired when I make over 100 posts and then I become lazy because I want to see my other members post as well so I just sit back and relax and watch the conversations flow on the forums.

Being lazy is just something you can fix on your own.

I keep telling myself "come on! it's just one more line of code!" even though I'm lying.

Nah, I'm kidding. I really like leaning back on my chair and looking to a finished project after weeks/days/hours of working on it, so that satisfaction is probably what keeps me going.

Frequently which is probably why the sites never really take off.

I do a lot. I get to the point of 'OMG why has there not been 1 million posts in the last day' and think it is worthless. Well at least I did that more so with other projects. I am somewhat more on board with other projects nowadays and keep working through the laziness.

I've battled this problem continuously and many sites later, it still doesn't get any easier.

I think it's a case of trying not to spread yourself too thinly.

Or the lack of creativity can be a problem as well.

A lack of creativity is always my problem. I am usually the only one that create's topics on my forum. ;-0. The rest of the people just reply. I just realized while posting this that the more technology topics I create, the more replies I get even though my forum is really based on gaming but its a dev forum.

Yes and no, I've never been lazy with my forum on MyBB, but I've had a forum on xF for a month or so and got lazy as can be with the forum, as well as bored with it. I'm lazy with a forum unless there's something for me to do, if there's nothing for me to do, why should I not be lazy (not speaking in terms of content, but in terms of coding and configuration, as I stop posting when I get bored of working on the board)

I mitigate this by having other things to do as well. I run a bicycle repair shop and have customers all the time so I can always go outside on work on bikes in my shop. I also do a lot of cycling myself. Having many things to do is a good thing because you won't get so bored easily. :)

Sometimes, yes! But then I find something or other interesting things to do.

Of course, there are days when you get lazy - no matter for what reasons. I had a forum earlier in 2006-7 and those days, I too was many a times lazy enough to peek in. I believe it is for good as we are humans and any breaks go good as long as they provide us refreshments. I felt that the next days I was online on the forum, I had more work and I did that enthusiastically than I normally would have done.
