To my surprise vBS seems to restart vbulletin 3 development. I write that it seems that way, because it would not be the first or second time that vBS makes an U-turn, retracts or even completely denies statements.

Recently the vbulletin senior project manager Mark Jean has been asking about what features we want to have added to vbulletin 3.
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/foru...re-some-things-you-d-like-to-see-done-for-3-8
I posted this list of basics:
    1. PHP 5.5 compatibility
    2. MySQL 5.6 compatibility
    3. YUI 3.9.0 compatibility
    4. Fix all open bugs.
    5. IPv6 compatibility
    6. Sprites
    7. Sphinx
    8. add blog comment controller (IMHO a bug)
    9. fix social group notifications
    10. add reputation notifications
    11. complete moderation tools for blog & social groups (split, merge, delete as spam, open, close, move, stick)
    12. show notifications for all moderated content
    13. Update html to schema.org (Rich Snippets)
    The senior project manager responded:
It remains to be seen if they will implement anything more than PHP 5.4 support and also if the new vb3.x release will be as messy as vb5 and vb4 CMS is. I also wonder if they will offer the new vb3.x release for a reasonable price or if it will cost full license price.

    Interesting times.

    LOL?
They're not able to finish anything..
And instead of fixing 4.x and going to start vB6 they want to destroy vB3 too?
Serious? DON'T LET THEM TOUCH THE ONLY VERSION, which is worth to be called vBulletin!!!!!

I think with a few tiny updates to vb3 such as php5.4 compatibility and a commitment to carry on rolling out security updates where needed vBS have seen a way to create a revenue stream with very little effort.

As a 3.8 board owner I'll be very happy to get a few small updates as long as they dont start adding things and filling it with bloat.

Mind that all versions after vb 3.8.3 were produced by internet brands / vBS.
PaulM just posted that it will only be a PHP / mysql update. This makes sense because this is what is forcing vb3 webmasters to migrate away from vbulletin.

However, since YUI2 will soon be EOL this is another major issue with vb3. YUI3.9 was just released this week.

I wonder if IB's own forums on vb3 have anything to do with the new interest in development, going towards vb3 again.

Very good point. I am sure they are already likely using modified versions for their forums, and now why not monetize that and bring it out for others.

Rolling out that update will give them time to complete vb5 to where it should be.

It would be nice but Paul M says this will be only php 5.4 compatibility fix and nothing more.

Don't forget, it is also something IB can profit from seeing most of their sites with forums are also still on vB3 too. So, you can take it with a grain of salt, whether or not this action is "for the customers". It looks to me like they are throwing a small carrot out to the customers to distract away from the real mess they've created. I can't say this news is a bad thing though and certainly better than any news the past weeks. But surely, it's too little way too late. More stuff like this needs to come and keep coming.

Don't forget that "paul" said this and that he's NOT the official IB PR man!
How can you trust somebody, when you even can't trust their Projectmanager posts in the announcement forum?
    They spin the words daily...
