How do you select colors for a website or forum design? Do you have certain colors you always use? Do you experiment a little. I seem to end up having similar colors for almost everything. There are some bright colors that I would likely not use at all.

I just think about the colors that I think will look good. When I start a new website, I always have a rough idea in my head of how I want the website to look. I usually end up going with a blue theme, because I think they look good. But I have tried other colors as well. It depends on the name of the site too. Like if the name has the word "Ace" in it then colors red and black come to my mind, because those our the colors of aces in a deck of cards.

I tend to have a basic idea of the main colour I’d like to use, and then I’ll head over to a website like http://colorschemedesigner.com/ to find complementary colours and work from there.

Good ideas. I like to see websites with blue designs. Not sure why, I just think it is easy to read and makes things looked organized and professional. Of course, I think you need some other colors in there as well.

I change it up a little bit so my sites don't end up looking identical. I usually stick with mostly white/black/grey and then choose a single color to make things pop.

Well, I try look at different templates online and if I see a color palette that I like, I use it on my website. Most of the time I look for colors that are pleasing to the eyes to provide comfort to my readers since they are the one who makes me money. I also like to have white, gray, or black to be the main color and add another color to complement them. Usually its either green, red, or blue.

It all depends on the site, and the mood I wish to portray in the community. Red naturally gets your heart pumping, and easily aggravated, whilst blue is soothing, and a cool calm attitude. For my zombie theme, I used Black and red for a dark form of forum. So is all depends on the attitude you wish to portray in the community. That's how I chose it.

Don't mean to go off topic, but WOW this really reminds me of the style generator in vB 4.
Anywho, for the times that I've customized forums/site on my own, I have started with the logo and then take it from there.
