Do you ever run into an instance where a user does break a "rule" as per the guidelines but something that you as an admin thought would be common sense?

I've had user post or do something in that past that wasn't directly covered (at the time) by our rules but didn't really help the progression of the forum as a whole.
When that's happen and after I talk to the user, I've updated our rules to make sure everything is crystal clear.

Sorry to bump an old thread but it came up in search results.

You're not talking about purposely skirting the rules like some of my members like to do.

From time to time I'll get some one who uses a signature that's just a little too big or uses a risque avatar. Even though neither are really against the rules normally a friendly PM to the member takes care of it.

I can't remember the specifics at the moment, but I do know what you mean. I can recall having discussions with my team and being amazed that we'd actually have to specify something which seems common sense!

I think this can occur at times. Sometimes an individual does something that is not clearly stated as against the rules. This would usually be something mild and often even innocent. An example would be postiung an ad in the wrong location or somehow using more lines for a signature than allowed-something like this.
