Even if there is an importer, I'd be more worried about how many members would leave due to the changes. Also you won't have all the fun things that you want to have if you transferred over to xf. (if you get what I mean) There are no apps that I know of that would be any use for xf like your blogs, vb experience, arcade and anything else. You would have a shit looking forum.

A classic example of a shit looking forum is the one over at bigcricket.com http://www.bigcricket.com/forum It's not as good and they have lost a lot of fans.

this is one from purevb.com

so I've been thinking of what if we went to xf again and here are some points.
What needs to be saved

the forum data
yes

the blog data
yes

the cms data
no

the social groups
yes

the user albums
yes

the attachments
yes

The reason I put no for the CMS info is because it's really all duplcate content already that's been posted on the forum, at least in our case. I do think we have 2 or 3 unique post but those could be made into forum post before the import..

A big thing for me is having access to many importers that work flawlessly because no matter what script we use, we'll always be building this forum buy purchasing others.

I'm not worried about this at all.
Most the members of general forums or really any non-admin type forums, shouldn't really care about the script as long as the site loads fast, easy to use and looks good.

I'd say go for it but I'm being selfish I just want to you to be the test bed. :D

Don't forget if need be you can import into vB then into XF for any unsupported systems. It's a PITA step but available none-the-less.

Have you thought about throwing a WP install in front of XF to use as a CMS?

Any idea if it's been sold yet at this point? He mentioned that if it didn't get what he wanted he might sell to the highest bidder.

I'm tempted.

The more time you spend on XenForo, the more you really just enjoy it and feel inspired. :)

Oh, and on the question of Blogs at least I noticed you have like 9 so it's not much of a big deal. However, if you absolutely must have that, there is a special importer available. Once you use Paul's importer, it will pull them in as threads. Then, use the Blogs importer to pull those threads back into neat and clean blogs for Ominua's Blogs add-on. Works great (though I haven't yet done it on my live site, it works fine on my dev server with a full database clone dump). Just an FYI!

There are some sites that use xenforo. Some of them aren't that good and don't get as many members because they don't like the style.
An example of a cricket site. http://www.bigcricket.com/forum Looks shit because there isn't any skins for it as yet. Kind of reminds me of the old phpbb forums.
If you decided to change over I would have to let it grow on me. It's not bad, but I'd be seriously worried about the members and you being able to retain them.

Not that I know of, he's on Twitter under fattony69
I'll send him a link to your reply :winknudge:
I saw that thread and considered it but I'm not sure I'd want to get a 3rd party blog mod. We have about 60 blogs right now.
I've thought about making a set of subforums for each user if they want their own section or blog. This would be limited to the supporters/contributors.

We would get a tricked out style if we went to xf :cool2:

It will in time, it might be a little while but we'll get something just as unique and sharp as the one we have now.
I did purchase a xF license and I've setup a test install /xf/.
You can check it out if you want but please do not try and login or post. (it'll jack up your cookies)

I had thought about importing the site over tonight but it's getting late and this isn't something I want to do tired and for the first time using the script..lol
So far the import is going along very smoothly though, as long as it stays on the path I'm shooting to have the site switched over this weekend. :woohoo:
