I know some of our members aren't really going to know what xenForo is, so let me summarize the story real quick.

The framework we currently use for our forum is called "vBulletin" you can see the copyright link in the footer. Well... vBulletin as those who have used it before, sold their parent company "Jelsoft" to another company called Internet Brands. Lots of people were rather upset about this and since iNet bought vB out things have been rocky to say the least.

Okay fast forward 12-18 months. A couple of the devs that had originally made vBulletin what is it, left after the buy out and started making their own framework called xenForo and it was released last night.

I considered picking up a license during the sale but to me it's still a brand new script and brand new company. Give it a year and I may pick up a copy but I have no intentions of changing our forum from vBulletin anytime soon.

I have several friends that did pick up a copy last night and already have a test forum setup. One of my friends named Ace set me up as an admin on his test install, so I'll be able to play around and see what the admin interface looks like. I'll ask him if I can post the link here if anyone else wants to see how it works in real life.

To me right now, the script has to many popups, to many hover things that usually annoy the crap out of me..lol

What are your thoughts, have you seen a xenForo site before? What were your first impressions?

Here is the demo site Ace put up
(removed, the xenForo demo link is gone)

    It's seriously awesome.

However, it needn't be a vBulletin killer. Because Internet Brands is all the vBulletin killer you need to kill vBulletin stone-dead.

Unless vBulletin has filed patents, and unless the code is identical, there's no need to worry about XenForo. Since they're both closed-source, proprietary software, you can't be sure anyway what'll become of them. There's plenty of open-source forums software out there as well ( comparison of PHP forums software on Wikipedia ).
