That's one of the most important factors but if the site is healthy in terms of incoming traffic, and search results, then it wouldn't be much of a problem of getting the ball rolling again - especially if there's a lot of content already on the forum. Contests usually help breathe live back into a dying forum, same with fresh and unique content.

    Yes. This.

A dying forum is usually cheaper to acquire than the one that's active, and building a forum in the same space is worse.
Annnnnnnd we have a winner! :)

Definietly start my own. I don't imagine a bought forum will ever feel like my own, not the way a forum I started from scratch will feel like.

Instead of putting all my resources in a dying forum, I'd go the extra mile for one I started myself.

I prefer to start from scratch in most cases. Unless the dying forum was setup the way I liked it and the price is right. :P

Hey what's up long time !

I would rather start a fresh with better ideas . I usually do lot of research /work before jumping for the new site . What i mostly do is create small circle of friends/supporters with same ideas and interests see what they have to say about my ideas . If everyone agrees with certain ideas they will be given responsibility to take care of . Buying forum which is dead is real hard to get back to proper place.

If you brought it out, it would feel like your own = and plus, nobody can run you when you do that. It'll give you a nice little challenge to how to revive the place. Personally, I believe in faith, and forum communities are the same way - if you believe in something, you chase it, you go for it.
