Yes I have and in some ways I understand why,but at the same time I think why not just make a post x times before sig.

When I'm a post exchange run, I noticed that some forum owners don't allow links in your signature, sometimes for 10 to 20 posts. I just make those posts, and put a signature at a later date.

No. I allow all my members to promote their sites in the signature and I also use this feature to share a link or 2 with my sites. If I am not allowed to do this, i won't bother.

I'll allow links in sigs as long as it's not overly spam. I see a lot of link spam from some new members, and when I recognize spam links, I ban and discourage.

I really haven't had any issues with spammers posting links ever since I installed the no spam! plugin, it works just like a charm.

The other day I had a stupid user come through posting stupid noncense, he was 10 posts in, trying to put a link in his signature, I removed all his posts and dropped the ban hammer. This was our first "sub" issue in a while.

I've joined forums that didn't allow signature links for a few reasons.

One would be a post exchange type forum, I usually just have some type of "hi" text in my sig for those sites when signing up and then if I'm there a while I'll add a link to my blog but try not to link back to my forums.

Another would be if I was asking for support or help on a particular issue, I'd sign up just to ask or use the whole sites so I could troubleshoot whatever I was working on.

I try not to get bent out of shape these days on signature links, but then again I have a substantial amount of signature links that I've built up over the years.
It would hurt if those sig links vanished, but I've also diversified my links into other networks in case one would fail.

Yep, I have. I have never joined them for the sake of promoting, though. If they don't allow links and I still have a use for the site, then it doesn't bother me too too much. For example, if I'm really interested in the topic area, the community seems great, and I could benefit anyway, then okay. 99% of the time, that's not the case, though.

Yes I am a member of a poker forum that doesn't allow links in signatures, but they offer other things to keep me there like private freerolls for being active in the community.

You can also promote using the homepage section as well as your avatar though. ;)

Yes, I have been in a forum where signature links were not allowed. I instead was able to use my Twitter link in my signature which, helped people find me that way.

It wouldn't prevent me from posting in a forum if I couldn't use a link to my website. As stated above, sometimes the content is so rich, along with the member's that it doesn't matter.

Yes, I'm actually a member on at least one forum/site with no signatures and no custom avatars allowed at all (only one's from the site's built in gallery tolerated). It's a pretty decent forum with quite a lot of activity and interesting content, and as you can expect tends to only draw in people interested in the content rather than those in it merely for a signature link or ten.

So yeah, I'm willing to join forums with no links in signatures.
