There's a donation topic if anyone wants to use it but nobody donates anymore so I have to pay for ad free out of my own pocket.

I don't ask for donations. I simply have a membership upgrade that helps pay for hosting, advertising, etc.

Nope I don't. i just pay for it out of my dad's pocket :P (well really mine, but he does the billing work)

Once I get a bigger member base, I may make a donation page or membership updgrades or something similar.

One of my administrators recently installed a donate button on my community, and so far its going pretty well. It's been up for a week and has already raised the costs of hosting - so do you have a donate button on your community? How long have you had it up for? What made you decide to have one?

I thought about having one, but to be honest I thought having a donate button on a forum such as AdminBB would be unprofessional that's why I have not added one. If its was in some other niche I would.

I think donations buttons look tacky, it's best to create a donate page to place them so they are out of the way. Then at least you can add detail as to what happens to the money and what you get, etc.

Well, how is it tacky? If it links to the donate button, and has a bar, it doesn't really look all that bad. You can just include it on your forum home so it doesn't get in the way of the other pages.

I've actually been contemplating adding a donation button or donation page to my forum as of late. I think I'm going to give it a try and see what happens with it. I had one on my old site, but I don't think we ever got anything (at least not while I was there). I'm hoping if I do add one to my current site I'll get some better results.

A question for those who do have a donation button/page: if you use PayPal (or something similar) do you use your personal account or do you make one specifically for your site?

well not everyone may wish to donate, so the last thing they will want to see is a great big donate button in the way of import content, so I beleive it's best to just have it on a donate page out of the way of the main site/forum

Yea I agree, I don't like donate buttons. If I had to implement a donate feature, it would be a page.

Does it help you though? On my other forums I've had it, but never received any donations.
