I've been looking around, scouting for relatively decent hosting companies. HostGator seems pretty good, and it is fairly cheap with it's basic package costing four bucks a month.

I've learned that you should always be wary when picking a hosting company that offers a service for unbelievably low prices, as they usually have

    1. horrible customer service
    2. if you are using too many resources they will cut off your service without notice
    3. will bill you extra (fine print/whatever)
    4. very slow-loading, very bad quality service

Of course there are exceptions and I am on the hunt for one of those. HostGator seems pretty good right now.

Does anyone have any experiences with their service? :)

Hostgator is a very good web hosting service provider, they guys over there on customer support are very quick to help. Also the server downtime is almost negligible. their servers are fast too. I recommend you to go with hostgator, the only thing left after you host with hostgator is to pay attention to the frontend of your website, the'll teke care of the backend.

Thanks, I will probably go with hostgator.

$4 a month seems pretty shabby but that's a good enough review for me to take the risk. I heard that they put a link "Hosted by HostGator" at the back of your websites, which is pretty dirty but it is easy to remove.

They dont put any link on your website, and why should they when you are paying them ? It may be in case when you build your website with their site builder but still I dont think they'll put any link on your site.

I just saw this picture posted, so:

I became a little skeptical. Turns out this is easy to remove but the fact that they put this backlink on in the first place is a bit untrustworthy.

It may be an affiliate link, can you provide the URL to the website so that I can check it out.
