A good question for thought. What do you hope to achieve with you forum? I know many people create forums to create communities of like minded individuals. However have you ever thought what you're wanting in the long run? What's everyone's ideas on this?

I'm pretty sure this was being discussed elsewhere on the forums but I can't find it, so if it's found the topics can be merged

Well, what do I want to achieve? Success and networking. I like running my community because its a niche that I have a lot of experience in, so thus, I share my experience with others, and others do the same. I'm just hoping for forum success - something everyone wants to go to, because its a nice, friendly community.

Your future of your community all depends on yourself, your needs, and where you see it going. Obviously we all have different goals and visions so what we're looking to achieve is different.

I like to make a lot of friends, joined forums, found how admins get to know people better, decided to start my own...

Making friends is one of the best things with running an online community - and not to mention being liked for the things you accomplish with your community. Personally, I hope to achieve a family atmosphere with my community, even if it outgrows the natural members. I just love running my online community, and I've already achieved what I wanted to do; I created an online community that continues to grow.

Good question. First and foremost, enjoyment. I enjoy contributing to forums and love playing around with them. I admin the one in my Sig but its not mine. I'm putting together two more that I will admin too. One day I may start my own lol

care to explain why you are hoping to achieve this for your forum?

Same here, it's a nice hobby of mine and I do it for fun, not just for the money

That's a good way to start off though - work on other people's forums, and then start your own. Experience is everything in today's society, especially in the forum world. If you're passionate about something, then chase it, and create a forum about it. The experience is cool, but the meeting of new people, and marketing your community is very nice as well.

I do not think there is much to explain when one says they do it for sanity. Everyone needs something to keep them sane.. Something to escape to from the world where they can find some sort of peace.. So, as I said I hope to achieve sanity

Great post, and I agree with you. Sometimes an owner gets lonely, and thus, creates a community, that allows him/her to mature - with the community - and meet new people. I wouldn't change anything in the world(running an online community) because its so much fun.

Not really hoping to achieve much, I enjoy doing it so it's more a hobby than anything else.

When does a forum become more than a hobby to you?

Unless it takes off in a really big way I don't think it would.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing. It's probably a lot more harder to control if it gets too big. But, isn't that all we want? A community that can spark many members interests and grow from there?
