The only real benefit is the conversation alert, and that only happens when one quotes you. The likes function is like the reputation function on any other forum, and in my opinion I think its better a rep system then this like system. Trophies is also another function that isn't really much necessary, the majority of users wouldn't pay attention to it. This is my opinion of course.

I actually think a lot of users pay attention to the trophy feature. It gives you a sense of accomplishment after you do something big.
And off of that, I find alerts very helpful. It let's me know when something involving me has happened.
Likes are also a nice feature. I find them an easier way to track a user's reputation than an actual rep, because if you neg reps enabled, that could easily be spammed.

Giving it more of a thought, the trophy feature could be a positive one. I do like to know when how involved I get within a community. The like function is still on the borderline for me.

OK Guys, back on topic please, we are discussing what forum software we don't like and why, not what features they have, etc.

I've never been a fan of SMF. I mean, I like it because it's easy to manage and it has a fairly decent layout, so it looks actually more organized compared to some software out there, but I don't like the fact that it lacks in decent themes. All they have are basically different color schemes to choose from, they don't have like phpBB has where it's all different styles. Looking at SMF themes is almost like looking at wall paper samples. All the icons are the same on every one it seems like.

VB for me. It just feels so clunky and bloated as a user.
