I know my idea of starting an online community came from myself - I saw that there wasn't any online forums, or anything for that matter in the "Virtual pets" field expect a links page that didn't bring quality content to the tabel, so I went ahead and made mine, and then copycats followed.

    So, how about you?

Came from myself. I was always active on various webmaster forums, and very active in websites in the webmaster niche then I decided to start my own, and help out other admins.

Yes, I joined a local community forum, and decided that I liked the idea of forums, so created one to go along with my website, etc.

My forum came from my own idea. There are too many general chat sites that are way too strict, and I didn't want anything ridicoulously strict, so I came up with my own and this is the result nine months later.

Sounds good to me. You're doing a great job, and thus, this community continues to grow bigger. A lot of webmaster forums on the net suck. xD

I was role playing on sites that focused on specific fandoms and simply wasn't able to keep up with the RPs there because of either overbearing rules or rules that made the RPs inappropriate. For example, I couldn't double post, and my RPs were quickly becoming a little too mature for the site.

So the Palace was born. My goal with it was to provide a home for all of my RPs and not have to worry about overbearing rules or content. I created a hidden board for the adult spin offs and the RPs themselves now have just about anything written in the normal threads except for explicit adult material.

A nice reason to start a forum. Thats how alot of things start.. such as companies, websites, forums. Where people get fed up of getting treated poorly and start their own.

My community ideas have come from myself mainly, no point in trying to copy others and so have mainly started due to passion/lack of forums in the genre/being treated unfairly on others so have decided to take a crack at running a similar one based off my own ideas, etc.

You forgot to mention why you started plutohost, because of the lack of good hosts and being treated poorly when you were staff on a former post2host (fi.st) which led you to start your own post2host (2hostyou) and now plutohost. (See I remember :P)

I did get my idea to create a forum from another forum I used to use to be honest, my reason for doing so wasn't any original reason though. The forum I was on banned me for voicing my opinion, nothing I said was out of order or against the rules, the moderator was just power mad and if she didn't agree with someone she would ban you, anyway once I had been banned my thoughts where that it seems pretty unfair that someone can ban you for your opinion on something, what happened to freedom of speech? I created a forum in which members would have freedom of speech and would feel at ease that they could post their opinions without feeling like they where wrong to do so.

That's a great reason to start your own forum, I would hate to be on any forum with staff members like that. People should be allowed to voice their opinions as long as it doesnt break any rules. Getting banned for something as simple is that is just sad.
