I can't agrue that SMF has been in beta forever lol.
But i have to disagree withit not being up there with mybb. There are many many different mods and themes that can be installed to make it look like you want it too.The ACP is extremely easy to use as are the permissions.

Definitely SMF. It's ugly and horrible in every way.

Yea, new themes are coming great, although that one is a 100% vbulletin theme copy.

Even though it's not really much of a forum software, I'd have to say Proboards. It's got really bad styles in my opinion, and the ACP lacks some important features. All it really is, is a standard page filled with hyperlinks.

I'd have to go with SMF on this one because it didn't have enough features to accompny my needs and such, also, development was slow when I was using it.

Haha! I completely forgot about Proboards, I haven't used it for years...

Well I really can't answer this. I only stick to vBulletin and phpBB but I guess IPB. There is something with the feel of it that I don't like. It's hard to explain but I really don't enjoying working with it.

I've never used SMF. Nor do I plan on ever. I really don't like the way it looks.
I find IPB forums kind of hard to navigate.

For some reason, ever since I've been using XenForo, I've actually had a distaste for phpBB again. Just on FP, Ashley suggested PM on a +rep (which by the way, is a good idea, not trying to belittle you or anything), but then something in my head made me want to say, "You could always have an alerts feature," which I find is even more user-friendly than a PM, considering you only can store X amount of PMs.

As far as self-hosted forums go, I pretty much find SMF to be absolutely revolting. It's ugly, it's clunky, it's messy, it's hard to find anything in the ACP, and it's not user friendly at all. I like phpBB slightly better than SMF...it's nice-looking, and I like some aspects of it, but it's so barebones and behind the times. You have to mod the heck out of it to get it pretty much comparably functional to anything else, and then upgrading becomes a total pain. But I think SMF is my least favorite.

Yes, I agree an alerts system would be far more better than a PM or email for anything & everything, etc. phpBB really do need to re-think a lot of stuff

I also agree to this too, it's so basic that without tonnes of modding, it will still look like a simple forum and not your forum...

SMF for sure. I hate their theme and just about everything else along with it.

Well an alert system doesn't do much. It only lets you know when your name is being used, other then that it really doesn't have much use.

I do agree but once you get the hang of it, its pretty nice.

Not really. Convsersations, likes, and trophies are also done there, along with it being used by a few add-ons as well.
