I use CS3. I have used CS5 briefly and it is really fantastic. I would highly recommend it.

They buy them in bulk and they've got a deal with adobe, but the bad thing is you only get one key with one use, so once you've installed it thats it, if you format then you've got to buy another key from the school

I'm using Photoshop CS4 and switched over to it from PS7 about a year or so ago. I was the biggest PS7 groupie for a long time. :P

I personally used to use CS4 and when CS5 came out I switched to it.

I like it more, sure the truth is there isn't a lot of difference between CS4 and CS5 but still those little details and extra options make it worthwhile for me.:D

And Kaiser if you want to start in Photoshop you can start by just fooling around making a few signatures for forum users or yourself.
In no time you will get to know all the tools and some basic techniques in Photoshop.

Later if you want you can just find more advanced tutorials on the net.;)

I use CS5. I'm not great at graphics but I'm learning :). And I've never used GIMP or other graphics programs, never really thought of moving away from Photoshop, its seems so powerful.

As a free option GIMP is pretty good but then again internet is big and there are a lot of options to make stuff free. ;)

The only thing I find hard is getting used to the new user interface.
    That annoys me the most.

Use the internet to search for tutorials on how to get "the best" from your programs (ie features which aren't well know etc).
