Sometimes I tell my new staff members to make a thread announcing themselves to the community, or I announce them on my staff board - but, what do you do? Do you announce new staff members to your community?

Yes, I think it is a nice thing to do, and it makes new staff members feel welcomed, and its also a great way for members to know about the staff changes.

I believe it's a good thing to do to introduce new staff members to the community. It provides a link between that staff member and the community then. From there the staff member will feel more welcomed and even motivated to do a better job and push himself to the limits.

Yes, thats why I feel its very important to welcome staff, and make it an announcement as well so they get proper recognition.

We always announce new staff appointments to the community. This gives everyone a chance to get to know the new appointment and the new staff can tell the community about him/herself, and I just feel that it's something to do not only out of courtesy, but it also gives others a chance to get to know the new appointment as well. You NEVER want to appoint someone and not notify your community about it; otherwise members will wonder whether you've messed up on their permissions or if you really meant to give them a staffing position. I think I've done this once when I first tried to run a forum... of course, I was running the community on my own at the time and I didn't know that you should technically announce any new staff changes at all.
