Do you prefer to use the standard CAPTCHA that comes with most forums and blogs these days, or shoot for a plugin to make cracking it harder?

I like the CAPTCHA plugins myself. They seem harder for those pesky spam bots to break, but still does not stop the human spammers.

Well there is no stopping human spammers, but to let you know Google's reCAPTCHA was cracked awhile ago. More info here, and staff over at vBulletin, IPB, and Xenforo have also acknowledged it and stated many ways to still stay safe from spam. The best way is to enable Question and Answer Captcha registration fields along with Email Activation. Ever since I enabled Q&A's Captcha I haven't had any spam problems so far.

I don't use the captcha ever since it was hacked - I use question + answer and email activation.
