Mapping and GIS in Visual Studio 2010

I know we have a few .NET people around here, hopefully they can give me some advice.

I want to try out a simple GIS map of Kansas and see if I can figure out how to input data via the web.

Here is a little info on Writing GIS and Mapping software for .NET, I've been looking for code snippets this morning and wanted to see if we could get a discussion about it here.

I'd like to write this in VB.NET because that's what everyone uses around here, but I could do C# if that was the best option.

I'm looking for some free code so I can at least see how they had theirs setup.
