So I am interested to know in which way do you Optimize your website for Search Engines? Do you do it the legit way (WhiteHat) like me or do you use other ways such as GrayHat and BlackHat techniques?

If you do BlackHat techniques most likely in the long run you will be caught and be penalized by Google, some people still get away with it, but there is a good chance you will get penalized.

I've always been a white hat SEOers. I'll rather follow the rules, and not get banned for doing wrong. It's just not worth it to do, and plus, white hat SEO is easier.

Yea its very easy, anyone can learn it. But one the other hand if you do BlackHat SEO and screw up there can be major consequences.

GrayHat is in the middle, kinda like moderate where BlackHat achieves SEO using illegal methods.

Silly question: But what are the differences between the three?

You dont know much about seo?
Well WhiteHat is doing SEO the legit way, where BlackHat is using illegal methods such as tricking search engines, keyword stuffing, spamming forums and blogs with your link using programs such as xrumer, etc. There are so many blackhat methods.

Nope, I've not got a clue about SEO, I just play about, read suggestions from those website analysis sites like aboutus.org and then hope for the best :)

WhiteHat is more appropriate for this. You can have no doubt of being caught and penalized and drive good traffic.

White hat, always! Though I'm always surprised as to what Google considers 'black hat' (gray hat). It's easy to think you're 'white hat' but find out you are in the gray area due to a recent Google policy change.

Every month or so, I make a point to go read Google's guidelines, just as a refresher. And, every time time, I'm surprised to find something new and different that was not there before. And, that's a recommendation I would make to anyone. Read those Google site guidelines, especially if you're are using the Adsense on your site, cause most of the times the guidelines they use to judge good quality for getting into the search engines are double applied to the sites using Adsense. Anyway, on the few occasions when I find myself in the gray zone after a recent Google policy change, I'm the first to run over to my site/blog/forum and make all appropriate changes and updates in haste. Google is not the company to mess around with. They can and will ban.

Always done it the WhiteHat way. I think I'll get more good legitimate members than if I attempted the wrong way.
Google is definitely one you want to be on the good side of when you've got a website.

You make a good point there, I have to agree.. google does often change their policy, its best to always check it from time to time and stay updated.

I use Whitehat technique because there is no need me for to do anything illegal. My person blog Page Rank went up and I did not have to anything other than write a article. My new site is doing alright, SEO wise, for a site that is less than month old.

How do you feel about white hat though? There's a lot of people that are blackhat - and lose rankings all the time. I just don't see a point in risking everything like that though.
