Since it appears the CotM is going to get entries every month, and has established itself at AdminAddict as a viable contest to its members, I think a few minor tweaks to how it works maybe beneficial for those sites that maybe underdogs, or for community members who may not be well liked.

Even though, I'm guilty of doing it myself, I think posts that "declare" who you voted for should be eliminated from the thread.

I think these posts serve no actual purpose to the contest, other than perhaps swaying voters to fit in with a "cool" crowd (though we're all clearly cool here).

Also, if the staff wanted the votes to be public as for who voted for which site, they could simply make the option to have poll results public as I'm sure they are aware of :D

Thanks for taking time in reading my suggestion!

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I do agree in regards to the voters publicly announcing which community they chose to vote for. They really serve no purpose initially.

Removing those would leave the threads blank, what in the world is someone supposed to say about the COTM submissions other than compliment a site and mention who they voted for. Look at other forums with website of the month and similar, they all have answers like these, it is what keeps people voting on them and a lot of the time it will encourage others to vote in there and mention why they voted etc, stopping these posts I think would be foolish.

If someone is easily swayed by the post of someone else, then they're not much better off without those posts, because they'll just vote for the community of the person that they've heard of the most or like the most.

I say leave it. Other forums seem to run fine with the same setup as the current one, and I personally don't see a problem with the way it works. Besides, the posts in the thread may point out something cool or interesting about a submission that the reader/voter may not have known beforehand.

I've always felt that the end result should be announced as a "surprise" to the members who chose to submit their communities. Announcing who you chose to vote for will (more than likely) reveal who the winner is within a short amount of time. Having members reply to the thread is fine, but we could do without the "announcements".

This is merely my take on this suggestion. We won't make any changes without running 'em past everyone. ;)

I have mixed feelings. I think the posts that announce who you voted for is rather unnecessary and serves no purpose. On the other hand, I don't think there is enough of a reason to totally disallow such replies.

I have a compromise to propose: Announcing who you voted for (or didn't vote for) is allowed only if constructive criticism is included.

Examples: (red would not be allowed, green would be)

    What do you guys think?

I am with you on that Nick, good idea as it allows it aslong as theres some decent material within the response.

I can agree with that, too. Seems like a happy medium. :)
