Have you tried registering on your own site to get a feel of its simplicity for your potential new members? We have tested ours quite a lot and have wittled it down so it is only the needed steps to complete the form. We have also removed the registration rules page and instead included a link to our forums rules and privacy policy at the top of the reg form so by proceeding they are agreeing to them (we do mention that). I have always loathed forums where you need to spend ages typing in shoddy verification images, re-typing your passwords upon failure of submitting it. Is your registration process easy to go through? If you struggle maybe it is time to simplify
Out of curiosity, what was the mod used to remove the rules page on registration? I think it'd be a benefit to use for my own forum (vBulletin really need to simplify the registration pages...)
Yep I agree, I would remove the time bit too but I wouldnt want to confuse people and allow them to use the wrong time zone till manually selecting one in the usercp. This is one of the reasons I love the facebook integrations. You want to talk dumbed down registration? Look there. In fact, it's just "pick a username" and , bam, you're there. I wouldn't recommend removing site rules, maybe forcing an acceptance of them later (before a PM or post is made, maybe?) is a better option, but removing the rules would be a bad idea.
Thats why having a link on the actual reg page is good, if they miss it it is not your responsibility as it is clearly on the reg page.
Ideally a registration page should only have username password - confirm password email - confirm email Register button I register at my site once a month just to double and triple check everything is working good.
