Pointless Copyright?

How much legal value does simply putting a copyright in the footer really hold? I'm generally interested in hearing about its value in the United States.

Uhh, well... =\ I use licenses Creative Commons — Attribution-Noncommercial 3.0 Puerto Rico when I make a free theme and such~

 

It only holds as much value as you are willing to put into defending it.
