You should be able to see this image as a guest . but if you try and link right to the album, guest can't see it. Has anyone dealt with that before?
Are attachments, thumbnails, galleries, and full images viewable to unregistered users? For my .02, I think these controls are too fine grained which leads to confusion even amongst experienced admins like yourself. There should be 1 global control for all attachments, 1 for thumbnails and a separate yes/no control for galleries. If no gallery permissions no access to thumbnails or full size galleries in albums. Otherwise obey attachment and thumbnails permissions for the UG. Sorry for the mini-rant.
