Is anyone using those passport hard drives? They are like a laptop hard drive in a housing and it uses USB. My wife bought me a 250 gig passport drive for fathers day. Its pretty cool. My computer at home only has about 80 gigs free room and I have been talking about buying a new drive. So instead of an internal drive, my wife bought me a passport drive. On a trip to LA last weekend we loaded all of the pictures on the drive. When we got home, my wife plugged it into her computer and copied them to her system.
No, it does not use an external power source, everything is through USB. It seems that there are 2 major players in the passport market, Seagate (the one I have) and Western Digital. Capacity ranges from about 160 gigs - 320 or 350 gigs. There might be passports up to 500 gigs, but I have not seen them.
Seagate is probably one of the most common/popular brands out there. I've considered a passport drive (and they are nice) but I haven't made the purchase yet. My 500GB Maxtor external hard-drive has been doing me good since last November. A passport drive will probably be my next investment for traveling purposes; I hate lugging my Maxtor around.
