I need some help with ms sql server. Who here has experience with it? I have a windows 2000 active directory server here at the office that is running sql, and I need to figure out how to log into it. The person who set the server up is no longer here. So nobody knows the SA password. And its not taking my domain admin log on information.
Hmmm, if you dont know the SA password, and no domain authentication is set up, then your a little bit screwed, however, all is not lost, you may be able to do this ; FAQ: Reset the sa password
Thank you Paul, but if I found a workaround. First I edited the system registry and set the sql login to either windows authentication or sql authentication. Then I installed "SQL server management studio express" - its a free download from microsoft. I was then able to take control of the sql server through the management studio. Come to find out, all of that was for nothing. The software will not work with the version of sql server installed on that machine. We have a windows 2000 server that I had to install the software on.
May I ask why it is still running Windows 2000? There have been two major server releases since then. Windows 2003 and Windows 2008. Both of which support the newest SQL Management tools.
Because it gets the job. We have 25 workstations here at this office. I can not justify spending the money on a new server when the one we have does the job just fine. Just because toyota comes out with a new truck, does not mean I'am gonna go buy it. Just because microsoft releases a new operating system, does not mean I'am gonna buy it either. Plus, we are a not for profit organization and money is tight. We will use that windows 2000 server until it dies, or until we "have" to buy a new one. If you think thats bad, you should see the accounting server. It runs on Novell and is about 15 years old - its got a whopping 8 megs of memory. But we are hoping to migrate to this newer software by the end of the month.
