so, i know theres all the diys on vbcom on how to install vb...but i was wondering this.. do you still have to change the few things that they tell you too or is that just a thing of the past? I didnt install mine, i had sumone do it for me. (noob move yes, but whatcha gonna do..lol) anyways....on a scale of 1-10, with me having about a 6-7 on knowledge of codes and backend ftp stuff...how hard would it be to me to install another vb instance? thanks in advance.
It's really easy. Download the vBulletin package, unzip it. Go to the /forum/includes folder and rename config.php.new to config.php then open it in your favorite text editor. Hop on to your hosting control panel and create a database, then fill in the database details in config.php with your database name, user name, and password. While your editing config.php don't forget to add the database email in case of any database errors down the road. Upload all files in /forum to where you want forum to be, for just a naked forum it will be /public_html on a cPanel server. One the upload is complete, go to domain.com/install/install.php run the installer. When that's all done delete install.php from the server. There ya go it's all installed.
I would say about a 3 - 4 on the "know how" scale and about 15 - 20 minutes. The time will also be determined by your upload speed. I think the entire vbulletin package is about 12 megs. Create database create user add user to database edit config.php file upload files run install script
You really can do this yourself! I did the same thing with my first vb, had them install it. I screwed something up and ended up having to re-do it. I went word for word by the manual and did it.

You don't do that during the install. Once installed though, you can go edit in the vBulletin Options just like you can always do.
ok..so..say i buy www . mysite .com ....I install vb on my host, run the installer, and put the domain name in the admincp? thats it?
You install vB on that domain (upload the files via FTP to the domain, run the installer from www. mysite .com/install/install.php), and you don't have to make any adjustments in the AdminCP.
ahhh.... When I first got into all this, it all looked like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, (code and such) but now I feel like my next venture could be installed by myself, and with a few new threads here...lol..and maybe a support ticket ot two...lol..
