What do you do if a disgruntled member goes through their post history changing everything to nonsense?
The only issue I'd see with doing that is that a lot of people will post really crummy posts just to get access. Either you'd have to be strict...

To a certain extent that's to be expected when you offer something free. I would try various ways to lure them back to post; maybe a readme.txt...
Maybe instead of the usual "Thanks" or "helpful post" mods, you could call them the "well-reasoned" "original thinking" and "poorly thought out"...
Any idea how they conduct their discussions? You could try casually saying "hey, could you CC me on that so I can get started on implementing...
