I am not arguing VB5 has a lot of mods or that the number of mods released is good or anything like that...

HOWEVER... Your example is a poor one BECAUSE the ibproarcdse mod thread has been moved through all the 3.x versions into 4.x- that means it became a 4.x mod it already had thousands of 3.x installs. It was a "special case" - the only one I know of. All other 4.x mods started AS 4.x mods on or after 4.x's release. Look at the "Release Date" of the mod- November 25, 2005! 4+ years before VB4 was released!

Spam-O-matic is the VB 4.x mod with the most 4.x installs- roughly half if the arcade.

Now I will get criticized for "DEFENDING" vBulletin... You know what- pointing out mistakes by those attacking vBulletin isn't really defending them- it's defending truth. That is what I defend whether you want to believe it or not.

Make argument, immediately defend it with the last statement. Profit? Actually, yes he is profiting from this post.

This post paid for by vBulletin.

In case anyone needs reminding when I post here I do so on my own time, not on VB's clock.

Of course I'm going to immediately defend it because I can easily predict the arguments people here will make when I post something.

I know it upsets you I cut off the rebuttal as you were forming it while reading the first half of my post- I know- I know how the mind words. I do apologize for that.

Just like I know Big Al is going to make some remark about me defending truth.

So the installs ibproarcade got as a vB3 version were simply carried over to the vB4 version, even though there was certainly no compatibility between the two versions? O.o

And again, you drill down to correcting the certain minuscule facts, but the real truth being made is still made or rather, your correction isn't correcting. The drop in popularity for the software, resulting from a whole slew of incredibly stupid mistakes, has caused the industry that used to be flourishing around vBulletin to die.

I criticize the fact that all you actually do well with these "pointing out mistakes" is change or deflect the discussion away from the real subject.

ibproarcade kept compatibility between all VB versions. Even today the very same version you install on 4.2.2 will work on 3.8 or even 3.7. It's not impossible to release one version of an add on compatible with all VB versions, just more work (and more code.) I try to do the same on my mods these days- sometimes it makes sense to support just one version that works on 3.x and 4.x. Sometimes it doesn't.

Sorry you feel pointing out mistakes deflect the discussion but I would argue it doesn't HAVE to deflect the discussion if the person making the mistake simply acknowledged it and moved on, and 10 different people didn't latch on to my correction and start attacking me over it. Just read it and move on- heck- no one even has to acknowledge it- just so long as the correction exists in the thread is fine with me- it really isn't for you guys benefit anyway because we all know you guys have your minds made up- the correction is there for those who may read this thread weeks, months, or years later who don't know the real history and are open minded enough to care about the truth rather than have an obvious agenda.

Ok Joe.. Lets use yours. 4275 installs of spam-o-matic for vb4 vs 89 of vbshout for vb5. BTW, vbshout was released in October of 2012, almost 17 months ago and only has 89 installs.

One doesn't have to have sales numbers to see vbulletin 5 does not have the support or interest of the vbulletin admin community. The management of IB doesnt seem to get this, or care for that matter, which baffles me.

Joe, what will it take for someone to come to the realization that vB5 is a failure? It isnt any one factor, but multiple factors. It isn't performance, it isn't the feature set (or lack thereof), it isn't the product design, it isn't the lawsuit, it isn't the lack of customer service... Its all of those things.

You have to realize Joe, I'm not a XF groupie or anti vB. I am a loyal vBulletin customer who is growing more and more disappointed in the leadership of vB and where they are going with the product.

I find it hard to believe there was backward compatibility, but I'll take your word for it.

What agenda are you talking about?

VB5 could be better- if VB5 was abandoned today then yes you could call it a failure if you want- but until it is abandoned it is a work in progress. It gets better each release, it is far from perfect but it is getting there. That seems to be what angers people the most- that time and effort is being put into VB5, that VB5 may not end up a failure in the eyes of history- it bugs them incredibly.

ibProArcade for vBulletin mostly does not use native vB functionality, such as the template system or even a lot of the variables and functions. It pretty much "drops in" the ibProArcade functionality as written for Invision Power Board and shoehorns it so it works with vBulletin's infrastructure.

Since the core infrastructure of vB3 and vB4 is not massively different, the only major things that needed updating for vB4 were the css and any desired navbar entries.

When I went vB3 > vB4 ibProArcade carried on functioning entirely as it was, albeit looking a bit ugly until I sorted the css out.

Na, what makes you think that? It bugs people because they work on vB5 trying to improve it?

Hey, I took your word for it.

Care to answer my question, which is the more important part of my post?

Ok, understand. I was imagining it would have needed to use the template system and that would mean compatibility between vB3 and vB4 would be impossible. That explains the situation. It is funny too, that in all the years, I've never dealt with that arcade add-on. I guess stranger things have happened.

I thought you said you were no longer able to post on admin forums?

That you were now only posting on admin forums to sing your own praises for rescuing one single poor struggling vB5 site.

Here's your reward - a GOLD pair of flip flops:

BTW - these will actually work, unlike vB5 :evillaugh:

Mark and Joe are both stuck in the past thinking people are interested in using FLASH games on a VB forum. :D

Isn't flash like, 1970-ish games. The time of the Commodore 64. :evillaugh:

Any forum using FLASH games today deserves a place in the Hall of museums as a testament to what old forums used to look like.

What question? Who has an agenda? YOU for one.

You're still wrong, you can code mods to use either the VB3 or VB4 template depending on the version being installed on- I've done it dozens of times. There's nothing impossible about that.

Neither one of us ever mentioned we think people are still interested in flash games in this thread. You're pulling crap out of thin air. We didn't bring up the arcade mod- someone else did.

That said, the flash games ARE still alive and well on Facebook. People I know spend all day playing Facebook games through their computers all using flash. I keep a tab open with ongoing Words With Friends games 24/7. Candy Crush Saga on Facebook- flash.

Sorry Joe, wasn't aware that Candy Crush Saga is a popular flash game.

I'm too used to playing proper online games like WoT.

You say it like it's funny- I never played CCS myself but I know it exists and it's immensely popular. As an Admin you should know the industry and to make a joke to hide your ignorance is only an embarrassment to yourself. You don't have to like it but you should know it exists and the details thereof.

Joe, no need to take it serious, I'm having a laugh with you. Personally they don't appeal to me, I prefer a proper multi-player game like WoT. I was having a joke about it because knew you'd bite at it.

That said, there's a bit of a difference between the more modern flash games on FB, compared to old ones you and Mark.B use on your forums. A huge difference!
